Can You Show Up Ready to Be No Place Else?
Max Dixon, a renowned acting and public speaking coach, once asked, "Can you show up ready to be no place else?"
The most important things in life aren't things... The most important things in life are relationships, but they're rarely the priority that they ought to be.
We only have 168 hours in a week. It's so easy to squander time doing less important things, or consuming media, and life is so... noisy.
Reflect on how you're utilizing your 168 hours. Are you watching too much news? Going down the rabbit hole of Facebook, Twitter or YouTube? Are you spending your time in a way that strengthens your relationships, gets you closer to your goals (personal and financial), or gives you peace of mind? Can you plan your calendar, or delegate tasks, or obtain services to free your time up to do things only YOU can do? Things like exercising, golfing with your brother, fishing with your grandchildren?
Make an effort to have a conversation with the most important people in your life. Turn off the distractions and give them your full attention. Make them feel like they are the only one in the world during that moment. This is being PRESENT. You've showed up ready to listen and share. You've shown up ready to be no place else.
Schedule a reminder on your phone to call three people that need you to be present for them.
